Travel consent letter

A simple, printable letter where one parent consents to the other travelling overseas with the children.

Before you use it

  • If parenting orders are in force, or family law proceedings are underway, taking a child out of Australia without the written consent of the people the orders require, or a court order, can be a serious criminal offence (Family Law Act 1975, sections 65Y and 65Z). Check what your orders say.
  • A child's passport needs its own consent process (the Australian Passport Office's forms), separate from this letter.
  • Some countries, airlines or embassies have their own consent forms, or ask for the letter to be witnessed or translated. Check before you go.
  • If you are worried a child may be taken overseas without consent, get urgent legal advice about the Australian Federal Police Family Law Watchlist.
